Hey,
Personally no but one of my nephews has one, is very happy with it as a one person charcoal cooker that I think mostly does steaks and chicken.
Cheers

Thats what I had in mind, a small manageable charcoal cooker for one or two..... Do you know if it would do a small roast too?

I would not see a problem, at least for smaller roasts - I know my nephew does whole chickens in his.
I guess it is unfair to expect too much of these cheap little cookers but as something to learn charcoal on at the price it looks fine to me.
The only other thing to do is keep on the lookout for a 2nd hand WGA but I guess living where you do the odds of that are a bit slim.
Cheers

As I said in a different thread, I will be leaving the country in 7-8 months so it makes no sense to invest in a propper kettle. The idea is to get one when I settle back home

Ozy, I'll head into a galore store tomoz to look at one and sus out wether indirect cooking is possible. And add my thoughts of how to possibly go about it. But direct grilling would be fine.

No probs, It's about time again to sus out all their latest gear anyway for forum info should questions pop up. I obviously can't own them all, but I can tell if something will work well just by looking at it.

If you want the full kettle experience with minimal outlay and no guilt when you leave the country spend 50 dollars at Kmart and buy their knock off kettle.
I'm using one now and wouldn't lose a minutes sleep if I threw it away tomorrow because it's paid for itself over the last 18 months.
Not a weber but does a pretty good job.

Off to K mart too Size does matter with indirect opportunitys. Trying to micro cook on tiny, what are just grills can be hectic. Fun but more suited to bbq nutters trying to prove a self inflicted point. That it can be done. Im not sure you need to punish yourself Ozy so Gus has a good point. If you don't need to export the grill? You can have my 57 weber kettle and just hand it back when you check out? Its no flies off my back, Yours if you want it. If you have a Brisbane dropoff point I can leave it there. In fact I really want you to have it

I had a look at the billabong and I'm not too keen on it. Very fiddly bottom vent that makes you place your hand directly under the bbq to adjust and is quite small if trying to two zone. Too much money for the quality. Ive seen better for $29. Jamie Oliver has one in places like K Mart. Still cheap and nasty but priced accordingly.

The knock-offs do come and go, we could probably make a fortune if we organised a good design to be made in China under a tight specification and a long-term commitment The trouble is that the ones commissioned from the land of the cheap are never it seems specified well at all. There is a great tale in a book called "Barefoot in the boardroom" of the early days of western countries, I think the example was actually from Australia, getting goods made in China. Someone arranged for the import of several shipments of hibachis. The first few turned up fine, then along comes a shipment that were just as well made but painted shocking pink - factory ran out of black The coda to the story was that the importer made lemonade from lemons, sold them into the gay market and ordered another batch I've seen the Jamie Oliver one Mick, but it was on run-out, in fact a quick google doesn't show much at the moment but I'm pretty certain the big stores do not necessarily put the fast changing items online. After seeing what you had to say about the one in the OP I just had to call my nephew to see if the bottom vent was a problem for him. He had not realised that there was such a thing as heat control, he thought the vent was there so once his food was cooked with it wide open he could just knock it closed with his tongs to put the fire out Methinks my family might need a bbq 101 get together Actually that's not such a bad idea, both my brothers are ace at Q and my bro-in-law is not bad plus mother and both sisters and several nieces - big family - love congregating in a kitchen to prep Cheers
