I don't have that problem Shayne, is there a "Keep me logged in button" I may have clicked on?

That's probably my fault, was trying to find a way for Mick to allow guests to view but not post, doesn't seem there is one, will change it back You can't actually stay persistently logged in, any time you restart your browser it will only take you to guest viewing but you just enter your email address and it should auto complete your password and you are logged in. Cheers

Yeh Shayne Ive spent the last week trying to figure out how to allow lurkers but stop them from posting. Seems it's not available on free probaords. I think I can upgrade without loosing anything like Groundhog66 Jap watch forum, the link I posted in his welcome thread. Pro boards work by getting you in free but restrict heavily.
Stuff like using my own domaine name aussiecue.com.au rather than aussiecue.freeforums.net is $13 a year. All this can be fixed at a reasonable cost however the big problem is the hosting that powers it. That is why Simple machines and Gator are such a good idea as the web master has all the control.
If ever we do migrate to a new format that this forum cannot be moved over, I can set up a front of house web page and link both old and new forums on it. The web page itself could display a list of recipes with links back to either forum. That way everything is still in house.

Hmm, Mick I left a crawler search running last week to ping anything to do with Proboards and this turned up today: theadminzone.com/threads/if-you-start-a-proboards-forum-you-will-never-own-it.101316/page-2Read down and it seems they do now have an export function, just how good it is might be another matter, will see if I can get some information on that. The back-end is MYSQL which is pretty easy to work with so if they have (probably) just enabled the export tools it does remove a big objection to staying here too long. At core I don't really have a problem with PB, it isn't the sexiest and as you say even paid for it's a gift but the content was always a sticking point - maybe it's gone away Cheers

see, Faith. This place could have fallen over a long time ago. But the core believers are holding it up. We WILL build our forum and I have no shame in having these open discussions as financially, I have no interest. It has legs now so all Im going to do is try to come up with cool recipes ,,, and try to work out percels cryptic mind

And the Captain stands steadfastly behind Mick supporting him in this endeavour. I don't get into the background IT stuff and only offer advice if asked, Mick is smart enough to know what he wants to do with the forum and does put it out there for members to comment. Not too many forums do that.

Cheers I beg to differ, I stay logged in no matter what I do. If I want to log out I have to physically do so, it doesn't log out when I close my browser. Admittedly I only re-boot my computer once a week, but when I do I don't have to log on here again. Check out your password storage function in your browser, I'm using Chrome.

Hmm, haven't been using Chrome of late Bill, FF on restart brings the tab up but have to login. Browsers, they each and all do things just a little differently Cheers

Even FF has the function of auto login and password save if you have selected to use it. I don't know about IE I haven't used it for years.

Oh yeah, my Firefox is setup for saved passwords but not for auto login on the site, I don't for most sites because I never quite know which computer I might be using, choice of several. However on this machine I've ticked remember me but it doesn't, dunno why but doesn't matter, one letter of my password and it auto-completes. IE... horrible thing but you can set it up very similarly. I had to use it this week to access a company's Office 365, the MS portal just did not want to know about FF or Chrome. It was the first time in months and there has been a version upgrade but it's no better Cheers

That was happening on an IPad, If I didn't log out I was always here. Last week I updated to 8 and that doesn't happen anymore.

Not so sure Win8 is an upgrade mate but it may have something to do with the way I have some stuff configured in Win7 - it doesn't bother me either way but I had thought it was a Firefox thing, maybe not. Cheers

This isn't my forum and unless you flat out ask me for advice, I'll keep my mouth shut but I do have to agree with Chris on Win8. It may be good on touch screen smart phones or touch screen laptops but it has no place on the desktop.
