Just a heads up! Ive been tinkering around on paper and over the next few days I will be making a few changes to condense the forum a little. Posts won't be lost but rather relocated and a few main boards will go or merged. The recipe section will remain as is. Im sure once done you will agree with the changes. With the change I can add a "Bar" and a definite other interest section and still reduce the RSI on your scrolling fingers

Speaking for myself, now that I'm used to it I find things great just the way they are.

It won't be drastic just smarten it up a bit. Like move camp ovens under spit and open. Get rid of butchers as that is really general on topic. Make general on topic about food and add an off topic board for off topic chat , Home and garden etc. I'll also add more topic descriptions to aid new users.

Heh,
The measure by which to adjust a forum layout is number of posts/threads under each board and how much off-topic or cross-posting occurs.
By those metrics I rather think Smokey is right on track to spruce things up a bit using the history to date. Doesn't sound like anything major but by the same token makes things easier to get around.
Cheers

Yeh, I've been looking at it and some entire boards could be moved into existing sub topics.
How do you fellas feel about adding a pizza oven sub in BBQ's and moving Baking under Kitchen as a single sub topic?
The more main boards I can get rid of now the more scope there is to add other boards down the line as the forum grows and members collective needs are met.

We'll leave it in your hands.
At the end of the day it'll be what we all want because it seems we're all singing from the same song sheet. A little bit of tweaking here and there will be fine.
It's not really that hard to use as it is but we do seem to jibber on regardless of what the topic starts of as.

That's a reasonable way to compact things and have everything still right there Smokey. It's interesting what you say Gus, my personal opinion, keeping people on topic in a thread in forum Nazism, it's a conversation not a court case Cheers

All done, with a bit of a shuffle. Recipes being our jewel in the crown I moved up to "eye level" Re off topic, I also agree it's over the top to demand a topic is kept on topic. Boring. As long as the topic starts out on topic I'm cool with a relaxed progression. In my experience a bit of fun happens with silly comments or banter and it invariably returns back to topic anyway. This isn't school so better for members to self regulate.

Off Topic - My thoughts from a mod/admin view
There is nothing wrong with the natural progression of a thread which explorse, discusses related subjects. It does make it hard when the subject is about a BBQ type and a cracker of a recipe pops up in the topic, The recipe should be moved to the recipe section. Where possible we will copy the recipe and post it in the relevant section and allow the original topic to continue. I consider the discussion to be off topic when it changes from friendly banter to heated discussion and gets personal. This forum is about BBQ, Cooking and Fun. It is also about exchanging ideas and cooking methods and helping people new to the cooking adventure. No question is too dumb.
Cheers

That's all good Phil, The difference here is there are no ulterior motives or drivers. If a cracker recipe comes up ? The forums vibe will have the poster knowing what to do. very much a relaxed forum.
heat and personal crap has not reared it's head in a year so we are good to go.

Smokey We do not expect any crap at all on this forum, The members here have all proven their worth over and over. We also do not expect to have to move stuff around. My post was just an example of when, from a mod/admin point of view, we would need to consider doing something regarding posts being off topic. Did I tell you we did a topside roast in the slow cooker the other day for 5 hours, mopped it a few times with rib and wing sauce. When we took it out we couldnt cut it , it just fell apart in strands, we mixed the juices from the slow cooker with it and served it up with some garlic mash, man it was good. Now what was the original post about (LOL)

LOL, Yeh point taken and I. Do know what you mean. Was making a point that ON topic need not be so harsh as it is on other forums. At least for now, Being a small forum. Anyway, what do you think of the adjustments?

The adjustments are good. I expect that as we grow we will tweak it a bit more.
The Forum is a living breathing entity, which will continue to grow and evolve. This of course is driven by the members and the directions that they take it and feel comfortable with.
