19th March Aldi have a saffa spread. One that should be on the bulk buy list is plain Mrs Balls peach chutney. It goes with anything and tastes superb. There is some other stuff that looks cool, all but the tomato sauce. I didnt like that as it has too much cloves in it. Others might like it

Thanks for the heads up Mick.
I was actually lookin in their catt today.
Their bench mixer coming up has caught my eye.
The dough hook function is what interests me the most as i have been persevering with a cheap mixer for all my Pizza dough needs for far too long.
1000 watts with a die cast base.
Mmmmmm, will need to see it, handle it before i commit.

Ive worked out how to shop at aldi, especially when it comes to consumables....
WAIT!!!!!, until a week or two after the catt, and scoop up the bargains.
I have had my eye on this Mrs Balls Chutney (wont know what to do with it once I get it as I have never used Chutney)and was at my local today. There was a stack of it, still not marked down, but it wont be long.
I did however pick up some Pizza trays at $1.30 each.
I was pretty happy with the price, see how they perform on tonites Pizza in the Kettle.

Once you taste it, you will know what to do with it.
If you miss out its at every SA grocery store
I use it to make monkey gland sauce or just on its own on chicken or in curries as the sweetener part.
I totaly forgot about it, will check if any still in stock tomorrow

Cold smoke some gouda, cheddar or camembert and have it with a dab of that chutney on water crackers with a cold beer. Nice snack when BBQing.

If you are after some a bit quicker I have attached a link to their online shop so you can see what they have as a range, it is all bloody good. and for the benefit of other members as well. I have no affiliation with the makers just love their sauces. disasterbaychillies.com/shopping.phpTheres a list of retail outlets across Australia on their site also so there could be one near you. If you still want me to get some for you that is no problem at all, have a look at the website and let me know which sauces you want and I'll get them. Then let me know where you are so I can send em.

If you get the chance to try the "Kiwi Green" grab some it is an absolute winner.
Jalapeno and Kiwi Fruit jam that makes lamb taste brilliant. Couple of chops on the grill and a dollop of that when they hit the plate and you cant go wrong.
Apparently they can only make a small (compared to their other sauces) batch each year because of the amount of kiwifruit needed to make the sauce.
Plan on getting my order in early.

Well, I got a few bottles at a marked down price of $1.99. 2x original, 1x Hot, 1x Peach. Had the original on burgers the other night and it was yum. I also splashed some of this Ketchup that I picked up at a mederteranian supermarket the other day which has a nice flavor with a touch of zing. Was only $1.50. Shayne

Tell you how much notice I take of labels. Had found a really good South African chutney down at the Ocean Reef Farmer Jacks. Ran out last week so went to get some more. Yep, It's Mrs Balls, not exactly cheap at just under six bucks a bottle but it goes a long way. They carry three varieties, original, hot and peach which I guess is the range. Trying the hot and the original this time. It's a great alternative to my much loved Branston, which I've never cooked with, just goes great with cold meats, cheeses etc. The Mrs Balls pours very nicely and is great on steaks. I need to go raid my mother's old recipes for various West Country chutneys, which probably means next time I'm in SA, they are in the main hand written and I know include a really good piccalilli and one based on cider apples If I can track them down I'll post them in the appropriate section. Cheers

I love cooking up chutneys so would love to read those. Also, If one is stuck for a decent chutney for cooking, IGA carry black and gold brand and their fruit chutney isn't half bad.
