Defiantly lots to learn for me, Beef in blackbean. Came out OK and the kids loved it, Said just like the takeaway Sprinkled over with Shaynehs Jungle Salt. I'm going to just start at the basics till I get my eye in with this. The kids want sweet and sour pork next Pad Thai might have to wait awhile but I'm allready honed onto the pad Thai sauce

Looks pretty good. That Jungle salt is the goods too.
Nothing beats a new toy and the chance to test yourself learning how to get the best out of it.

Great start. Will the sweet &sour pork be from the women's weekly Chinese book? Doesn't everyone have a copy of that one? I've done it now and then and it comes out like you get from the local Chinese shop. There are more authentic versions online but that one has the memories attached which make it so much better!
Oh well, looks like I'll have to do a Pad Thai. Hmmm, chicken, pork or prawn or all 3 (kai, moo or goong)

You never do know if to be pleased or insulted when compared to take-away If your local Chinese is any good though it is not a bad bit of feedback Looks like fun, may have to see about getting into this next spring, if I even vaguely try wok style indoors here I have to go reset every smoke alarm in the place Cheers

Ahh the good old smoke alarms. That happens to me now & then - figured out I have to have a window open, exhaust fan on full & door open, plus a stick handy to push the shutup button. Now it's a real pest since I put in a house alarm with a smoke detector wired in, so the siren goes off as well. Amusing having to control the smoking pan & rush around 4 alarms to silence while getting blasted with 6 sirens screaming & then the security company calling asking if I want them to call the fire brigade plus the neighbors coming over. Tend to do smokey stuff outside now.
Also was some fun when I moved in to this place. It's got the wired in smoke alarms that are interconnected. About 6 months after moving in, the batteries started to go - was getting a low chirp now & then. Replaced the batteries - still getting a chirp. Standing in the middle of house trying to hear which direction it was coming from, no luck. Goto the front & listen - coming from the back, goto the back - no it's coming from the front. Sigh replaced the new batteries, checked connections, all looks good. Still getting chirping. Again standing in the middle trying to figure out where it was. Checked all the rooms, about to check the roof cavity or replace the bloody lot, can't figure it out. Finally I look straight up - yeap there's a third one directly above my head in the middle of the house - never saw it before! oops
Cheers

Yeah, we have one in particular that is silly kinds of sensitive, really must replace it, it can trigger if the wife does toast, not burn toast just make some I was pretty quick to tell the alarm folks when we had that installed that no, I did not want the smokies linked in Cheers

Here you go.
I apologise about the soiled pages but the amount of times i have gone with this recipe, I am supprised the page is in such fine condition.
I once started using lean Pork for this only to realize it was not the best cut. The Pork I find best to use is by far, the neck. The little bit of fat through it is perfect for this.
The MSG is optional. I use it (a pinch is all) as I think it plays a good part in the sauce.
Try this one and I guarantee your local Chinese restaurant has just lost one more customer.

Nice one Shayne, think I have that cookbook, in similar condition. One of my friends was browsing through our rather extensive cookbook library a few weeks back and remarked it was pretty easy to figure out the most popular dishes Cheers
