Rice bran oil....what is it good for? (Not really popular in my part of the world and I know little about it)

Basically the bbq oil of choice these days Ozy, it has a high smoke point is very neutral flavoured and doesn't go gummy like olive oil.
It's good stuff, not been readily available for that long though, now both Woolies and Coles carry it and this sort of special is not uncommon between the two of them.
Cheers

Can you also use it for frying stuff, or for mayonnaise?

Yeah, it's a great frying oil and being very mild in flavour does a good mayo.
Cheers

Like most oils there are health warnings, omega ratios and potential arsenic if I recall but the stuff being sold in Australia under the Alfa One brand which is what you will probably come across is being very sensitive over both those issues - the former I really can't get fussed about given the amount you'd use, the latter is well covered in food certifications. Cheers

That's a good price. Oz, It's the "Current" oil of choice for the bbq. It just behaves well. Ive never made Mayo out of it but as Chris said it won't over power it.

I've used it for a Mayo a couple of times, no issues. It honestly was a bit of a good find from my point of view a couple of years back, I'd been scared off of Canola big time by some family horror stories but I never really liked the after-taste much anyway and EVOO was all well and good but expensive and leaving that cleanup chore with the gum. Rice Bran is, especially at this price, which is around what I've scored a few months supply at each time anyway a really good compromise for a lot of oil requirements, just keep EVOO for what it excels at Cheers

Can you also use it for frying stuff, or for mayonnaise? Because of it's high burn point it's great for a wok stir fry. Get the pan going real hot and still no smoke, unlike most other oils. Dave

Yep I agree, EVOO for what it's good at and Rice Bran oil for frying and BBQ.
