Heh - delights of renting I guess, the stove we inherited sort of upped and died, one burner just will not light another is sort of backing up then erupting, shades of Yellowstone and the oven has a nasty habit of going out below 195.... I really had not noticed until a couple of weeks ago, between the Qs and the slow cooker and the radar range I'd been using one burner on the top for sauces and stuff but one meal that required a frypan and couple of saucepans said this is definitely last years. The owner is very good value, we are very good tenants so it was an easy deal, ordered today should arrive Tuesday, be installed Wednesday. Nothing startling, just a GE upright, four burner fan forced with a decent grill but light-years ahead of what we have been mostly ignoring We are taking the opportunity to move the stove location as well - some idiot when a previous double width had died and been removed had put the current single width in a corner of right angled splashback. You really just cannot cook on the thing, all handles facing left and any large pot on the right doesn't fit. Pretty simple: Move it to the left, bench I built when we first moved in swops to the old location and kitchen cooking gets a lot easier. Might be a slightly chaotic week - good excuse to cook outside - if I don't get blown or washed away Cheers

Sweet, something new. Sounds like a decent oven. Having that when the q options mean freezing outside. I know where I would be! Reminds me of when I moved into my first unit (purchased). I'd thought on the inspections the al foil on the cooker was to protect the enamel surface. Found out it was to cover the rust holes into the grill! A bomb waiting to go off. Meant a new stove asap. Bitter pill when I'd just sunk everything into the purchase. Live and learn.

Indeed. I've owned my own places for decades but have some very strong reasons for returning to rental and have to say that so far I'm not really regretting it at all Cheers

Well, that was a bit of a saga. The store managed to mess up the order but made good on it by switching to a similar but better featured Westinghouse for the same price just we had to take the floor model which was a non-issue. Really a very nice stove, narrow which is what the kitchen required, at 540mm, but having now had it installed as described, middle of the benches, we can already see that it is going to be a far more pleasant cooking experience this winter. Four burner, one a wok, which looks to get extremely hot, way better fine heat control than the old wreck, a decent grill that I really had been missing for browning stuff, fan forced, which will be a small learning curve, never had one before but then I'm not too sure when was the last time I had an oven with a light that worked either Should be a bit of fun - one idiosyncrasy that I had not seen before but easily fixed was it needed to be plugged in, duh, the fan and light dummy We have for some reason four power points above the bench right next to where the stove now sits so easy as It does remind me of one of my last conversations with Jamie though, I've always been used to electric stoves or any power requirement to a stove being hard-wired, that is not the way in the US. Not long before he died he bought a new stove, an absolute monster and electric. Living in Tennessee with the TVA up the road his power was so cheap why wouldn't you? I had not known the way of US power - it really is a bit odd to us, we think it is 110v, but for anything that needs more, like a stove, they actually bond up two circuits to feed 220volt anyway. I had asked him how it was going to be installed and he laughed and said he and the delivery guys had already done it, put it in position and plugged it in I suppose in a way it actually makes sense if you have a bigger percentage of rental property and your electricity is cheap, you can take your stove with you. Regardless, first time I've seen a power cord with a plug on a gas stove and I did, once a long time ago, work retail where we sold stoves etc Me I just prefer gas although the recent discussion about induction did get filed away for when we go build or buy again - cash willing Our very, very good gas fitter/plumber also alerted me to many changes in the regulations since the wreck was installed. It took him a bit of cursing to detach it from the gas pipe, which was rigid - not allowed any more and very understandable why, you need to pull the thing out to service it. So now it is connected with a long coil of flexible pipe and he needs to come back tomorrow to install a wall chain so it can't fall over and break said pipe. Sometimes I think we can be over-regulated but sometimes I think we unknowingly live in death-traps One unexpected side-effect, we temporarily look a bit bogan, in the Jeff Foxworthy definition, there is now a redundant and not very pretty looking stove on the back veranda next to the kettle and the Q Hard rubbish is months away and this thing is not going to fit in my car so need to round up a friend or relative with a ute Thinking to strip it first though - some of that stuff must be useful.... Sounds like a potential cold smoker I do miss Jamie's enthusiasm, By about now I recon we would have had his mind around the Aussie Cue thing Such a loss. To loose a founding member still hurts, Head clashing or not he was a sweet bloke with a big hart. Glad you have the new oven happening, and in the nick of time

I had considered that, use the carcass for cold smoke, not wanting to look TOO Beverly Hillbilly it might depend upon the secondary project of a nice big storage shed that I'm contemplating. It's just an odd rental, they never want us to leave so very happy to match them for whatever makes sense. Financially - I really do not know, I've never really made that much out of owning houses and I get to write a big chunk of rent off here from running a home business, either way good for now To say I miss Jamie would be a massive understatement mate, my wife feels the same, he was somewhat of a crazy, but in a very good way, life is, it's all you can say in the end... Well, the oven is I suppose in the nick of time, the alternative was some weather protection around the Qs and a patio heater Cheers
