G'day I put out the feelers at Xmas time. Why not an instant read pen. I ended up with an iGrillmini. Crap! I've got a remote thermometer! I really liked the idea of that instant read thermometer prob. A couple of days after Xmas I thought I'd give it it go. I pulled it out of the box. Of course, low on the written instructions. Download the ap on the phone and winged it. Not bad chicken. And I could override the settings and get 2C more cause I like that safety margin on my chicken. Worked well , yes it did. I've used it a few times now and my old one hasn't been used since. Blue tooth works well no black spots at home. Battery still going ( yes I've a spare 2032 cell and the local garage sells them) And Im really liking that graph. A quick look at the graph will give you a finishing time. I can't see the need for anything more complex. Regards dave

G'day smokie The Mavericks are really professional piece of kit, don't think it will die on you anytime some either. My needs are pretty simple and the iGrillmini works well enough for what I need. I would encourage anyone to get themselves a remote prob thermometer. You'll find your roast can be so much mor consistent , it literally takes the guess work out. Regards dave

I agree, I run a Mav and a Thermapen. SWMBO wonders how she did without the Thermapen in the kitchen.

Does the iGrill also show you the oven temperature?

G'day From what I've read the iGrill2 has 4 probs so you can monitor 2 different bbqs. That's 2 lots of meats and 2 diferent "pit temps", A bit more complex set up than I require. I'm sure the iGrill 2 would also have the same ability as the mini in keeping a history of your cooks, again something I have not had a use for but others might find usefull. Regards dave

G'day My IGrill mini now has a quite a few cooks now. It's on to its secound battery I could never trust the batteries in my old one just a generic gasmate. The blue tooth has some disadvantages. Range is an issue that some might not like but I leave the phone on the back verandah when visiting the neighbours. The blue tooth does use a lot of power in the phone, for myself I just leave in plugged into the charger when I do longer cooks. One thing I really like and makes timing easy is the temps are in graph form, makes it easy to predict you finish time. The one thing that suprised me is its packeting It's really well constructed and has lasted really well. Not something you think about when purchasing anything but it it stows away easy and the cord has a piece to wrap it up. I'd recommend them to anyone. Regards dave

Good long term review. I have the same problem with the GMG pellet grill WiFi. The I pad has to be right in front of it to work. Most likely a problem on my end but havent yet found the inclination to sort it out. I wonder if one of those WiFi extender gizmos would help,

Heh,
Possibly Mick but if you can hook up on wi-fi to a router for example at reasonable distances then it is more an issue with the output power of the GMG. I don't know the device but some I've messed around with have a simple pot that is sort of like a volume control to adjust the power. They do it because different markets have different regulations and of course sometimes in production it gets accidentally turned to zilch.
Bluetooth is not designed to have much range though, the specification is 10 metres although it usually does better than that.
Cheers

G'day chris Exactly. It's blue toothed based. That's the disadvantage. But the thing works and works well In the suburban back yard. The thing comes with no instructions and even I could wing it. One button, one battery, could it be more simple. Regards dave

Smokey, Until GMG bring out the firmware mod that allows the grill to connect to your WiFi an extender will not be any use. Hmm maybe I'm wrong, I've got an extender not doing much may try it out. Can you try the signal strength ap and see what it says?
