Hi just wondering if any one else does home brewing on the site I have just put on a Tooheys Dark Ale for me and an Apple and Blackberry cider for my wife will be ready to bottle in about a week but normally I leave it for 2 before I bottle as I findthat they have really come down to a Specific Gravity of nearly 1.000 which is great then when I bottle I leave them a minimum of 2 weeks before drinking I get around 18 750 mil bottles and 18 375 mil stubbies out of a batch cheers

I have been doing it for 4 years now and I am so pleased with the product I turn out it gives you a really pleasing feeling when people come around and compliment how good the beer or cider is , hopefully there will be some replies

I'm a long time kit home brewer. realy helps if you have a good supplier to talk to. I kind of go in and out of it. I've got all the basic gear and every now and then I'll lay one down. I have most reciently had some Fun with Trinidad scorpion spiked ginger beer. Oh boy was that a good way to give the sauce a rest. Took four hours to get through one 500ml bottle. I did a stint at one of those home brew factories and the beer was good. The sheer range on offer to taste before throwing one of choice down was delightful,,, and free. best done with mates at those places. Im not like some blokes that do everything from scratch but I certainly do have a respect for their hard work. I think subconsciously I got into brewing so I've got something to drink when I become a pensioner

Gee that sounds good Smokey I d like to try that ginger beer I bet it has more than a zing, I do have a good supplier I only buy one cheaply that is around $16 that's the Tooheys Dark Ale I add to it dark malt extract it gives it a real smooth taste most of what I buy are around a pineapple s worth or should I say $50 , I really admire the people who start from scratch to make their beer I'm to time poor to do that cheers Terry

Im a keen brewer, and have been for the last 20 years. That said, i have never really seen the need to get right into it, like, venturing down the mashing road......
I have had really good results using the Thomas Coopers range, adding some extra Hops if i feel like it, then mixing it up using different strains of yeast. That, and using quality sugars (predometly, LDME for me), you will end up with a fantastic drink. Shayne

I can understand that Terry and Shayne. Some of the best beers I've made were the most basic. One in particular was Wonders pale ale done dead on spec. And from Big W Tez, If do do ginger ale . Buy a designated wort. The flavour never leaves them if you later want to use for beer. Done to spec, Ginger beer is a real treat and the alcohols can be wound right down if required. Or wound right up.

All this talk of brew, I just checked under the laundry cupboard and found a can of Mangrove Jacks classic dry blonde. Might need a fresh yeast and the can is a little rusty. Even found a pack of lolly bombs,,, And a packet of dextrose,,, I must have bought the stuff and forgot
