Just saw today the availability of a new fast read thermonitor put out by Maverik for $45 plus post. For the price, and if they are as fast as a thermoworks pen this is great news. EVERY cook should have a fast read pen type thermo and this new product seems to place the tool into many new hands and budgets. For members wondering what the fuss is with instant read thermopens. The difference is under 4 seconds as against 12 seconds for cheap probs to get a stable read and when working over heat or lid up time is critical or when you have multiple portions to check, One gets to appreciate the speed. Also the very fine stepped down tips means you can even check the temp of a fried oyster without punching a massive hole in it. I highly recomend a super fast thermo pen regardless of brand and now at $56 delivered within Australia is great news.

I've got a couple of thermoworks themapen's - they are great - bit pricey so am glad there is a quality cheaper alternative. Thinking about relatives and Christmas and would they use them..... hmmm more thinking to do

Since this OP there has been another entry on the market from the perfect steak guy. It also looks pretty good. Personally, if I had to replace my thermoworks pen, I'd buy another with the back light but these two newbies are acceptable purely because of the fast 4 second read. 12 second + slow counters are just to slow for the bbq.
