Hi just wanted opinions on which BBQ is better quality / performance. Cordon bleu deluxe 4 burner w side burner $1099 or gasmate specialist 4 burner w side burner $699. Do the ceramic tiles on CB really improve flavours of food? Is it worth $400 more? Thank u ?

i think the tiles do improve the flavor,
you see....when the drippings fall on to the tiles they sizzle away and throw flavor up onto your tucker.
i would go with the gasmate,
or better still why not get a weber family Q......surley it would be the same price or better than a four burner,
my experiance with side burners, are.......they are only good for firing up youe charcoal chimney.
other good reasons to go with the Q, is...........after sales service, warranty, quality accessories........
but best of all we are lucky to have one of the most clued up Qers in OZ on this forum.
and i am sure Phil will walk you through any fears that may arise.
so forget those 2 you mentioned and step up to Weber.

Hi Nicky, Please join the forum. To answer your question we would need to understand a lot more about your requirements. If the salesman didn't ask the questions, don't go back. What do you want to cook How many do you cook for normally How often will you use the BBQ Do you want to cook a variety of dishes Do you want to roast Where will the BBQ be used Do you have an area to clean the BBQ. Will it be stored there or do you have to wheel it to a storage area. Do you need a side burner (most people rarely use them, they are not hot enough for a wok) What experience do you have cooking on a BBQ
The questions that you ask about the BBQ are What is the warranty. Where will you do the repairs under warranty. Do you have a written warranty policy Can I see it. Do you carry spare parts. Who manufactures the BBQ, (remember most of these are manufactured in China so BBQs Galores or Gasmate are not the manufacturer) Will you deliver and assemble the BBQ. What is the BTU output of the BBQ. Does the manufacturer allow hood down grilling (you need to check the manual as many do not recommend this because the BBQ is not designed to handle this type of cooking due to th heat buildup buckling the BBQ plates, hood fram, cooking box etc.) Grilling with the hood down produces the best BBQ flavour, keeps the meat juicy, cooks twice as quick, uses less gas and is the best tasting. If the salesman tries to talk you out of this or argues about it he is just trying to sell you what he has. If you are comparing BBQs ask what the weight is of each of them. Grab hold of the sides of the hood and twist and shake it, apart from giving the salesman a heart attack, it will give a good indication of the quality of the hood and the build quality. Ask the salesman what type of burners the BBQ has, What type of flame tamer system does the BBQ have, is it replaceable, how do you clean it. How long will a 9Kg gas bottle last using this BBQ Are the grills and hot plate porcelain coated, what is the warranty on them. How do you clean the BBQ, how often should you clean it, how long does it take. What is the warranty on the burners. And any other questions or concerns that you may think of. Rememember if the salesman is a pimply faced teenager then chances are he won't have any experience in using BBQs nor will he have the i depth knowledge to help you make an informed descision. Ask the salesman what bbq he owns and is he happy with it. Do this first before you ask any questions about any BBQ as he will be locked into what he said originally and can't give you BS comments when trying to close the sale.
From the answers we may be able to give you our suggestions. It is hard for us to offer opinions some times, most of the members here BBQ 5-7 nights a week and own multiple BBQs. Our requirements differ greatly from the occasional user. All BBQs work it's just that some work, cook and last a lot better than others, it depends on what you want and will be happy with. People buy things for their reasons not ours.
Cheers
Captain

We do use coal bbqs for when guests come over but I want a gas BBQ for convenience for me to use rather than husband I have 3 young kids and I can't be mucking around with coals and waiting for them to heat up. I would Mostly be cooking chicken pieces, sausages, kafta, skewered meat etc not really using it to roast whole chickens or lamb roasts. I wanted the side burner to fry food I don't like frying inside the house usually I take an electric fryer out on the balcony but I thought if I have a side burner I'd use that? Probably be bbqing 2-4 times per week. I just don't want something that will rust or chip. I don't know how to join forum lol had a quick look but will explore further later. Thank you ?

Click on the "register" word on The menu bar under the Aussie Cue banner on the right hand side. I do not recommend using the side burner for frying especially with kids around. The deep fryer outside is a much better option. For a family of 5 the weber Q series is a better option and is extremely easy to use and clean. It produces great tasting food. It is a toss up as to getting the Q2200 or the Q3200. I would go for the Q3200 as the final cost is only about 150 buck more when you add the cost of the stand to the Q2200. Won't rust or chip, like all BBQs it takes 10 minutes to pre heat, a steak takes about 6-7 minutes to cook to medium rare/ medium. Snags are about 6-7 minutes. Grilled chicken thighs abut 6 minutes. All grilling is done with the lid down. Purchase from a premium weber dealer. The following is a link to the weber Australia site. They have a lst of their premium dealers on that site under "Retain Outlets" www.weberbbq.com.au/index.phpHere is a link to my Weber Q recipe book and helpful hints about using the Weber Q series, it will give you a good understanding of ts capabilities and why so many people use them. aussiecue.freeforums.net/thread/181/captains-weber-recipe-useful-hintsGreat to see that you use charcoal as well. I hope all this helps you. Cheers Phil

Captain, That info up top could be a useful sticky under "Buying a gas bbq"
Nicky, from what you describe the Q is for you. There is a reason so many enthusiasts have them.
Using the side burners is a bit like using one of those cheap camp stoves that use butane cans. The wind plays havoc and annoyingly underpowered. For frying outside an electric single hot plate is far safer and less prone to wind
However to answer your question between the two, The cordon would be my pick. They are an ok bbq.

You are buying a gas BBQ for the exact same reasons that I did, the kettle is great but during the week and for simple no fuss gas is the go. I bought a Weber Q 220 and am totally happy with it but there are just two of us most of the time. If my kids were still at home I would have gone the 320 (Now the 3200) as many friends in your situation have done, all very happy. The forum is not in any way affiliated to Weber but many of us have been around BBQs a long time and once you get a look at a Q and have a good salesman show you what it can do the others just pale by comparison. Happy shopping !! Cheers
