Sheesh. I was all good to go with a few steaks when the lovely comes home and says what am I going to do with those chicken legs ? Oh, those legs that I forgot about and are still good ,,, but need cooking So I whip out some tandoor past, yoghurt and a one hour marinade. Thats not enough and the legs are on now. I need to cook them fast so need to mix some tandoor paste with oil as a baste. Yes I'm taking pics of my train smash

I have an upright commercial freezer that is bigger than I am. It comes in very handy both for buying and freezing discount meat and for popping something into it when the plans change, which can happen for all kinds of reasons. A request for something else, inclement weather, getting called into work on what's supposed to be your day off, etc.

No harm in freezing uncooked chicken. Unless it's been in the refrigerator for a while.
I don't know what smokey's exact situation was but so long as it's still fresh there's no reason you can't freeze it.
I do it all of the time but then I buy it, bring it home and pop it in the freezer. It kinda sounds like his may have gotten forgotten about for a while. In that case, yes in that case I would utterly agree with you.

Sure, I should clarify. I bought it unfrozen and in a cryovac bag. Then placed it in the fridge for maybe four days. My experience says thats about the limit and too late to freeze so it was cook or throw. If I had of frozen it when I got it home Id be sweet and just bring it out to defrost in the fridge for a few days. Pork is another one I've had issues with sitting too long in cryovac and not frozen. As well as some beef offal such as hanger steaks and cheeks. All these issues where from not cooking to plan

Yeah, I pretty much always freeze anything that I'm not going to cook the same day that I shop. Cheers

Yeah, thanks for the clarification. I do agree with Chris. Anything that I'm not going to cook that day or maybe the next I freeze. As I'm sure you're well aware you do have to be very careful with keeping any kind of poultry around very long unless you freeze it.
