I can understand you guys who like gas, it's certainly more convenient but I prefer an open flame.
This is my main baby. I bought it in 2007 but I had another one just like it before that.

Mine also has the add on side smoker box.
This isn't where I bought it from and I didn't pay anywhere near that price but this the exact primary BBQ I have. This shows it with the side smoker box.

I also like that it has a built in temperature gauge which is great for smoking or slow roasting.
I added some cup hooks to the front shelf so that I can hang my BBQ tools on them and my deck isn't covered and so I also have covers to protect my babies from the weather.
What I like the most about it is the cast iron grates are not only easy to scrub clean with a grill brush but it has four grates and so so if you need to add fuel to the fire you can just move your meat over to the other grates and use the cast iron tool that comes with it to lift up one of the grates and add some charcoal or wood chips and then rearrange things.
It also has what is designed to be a warming rack on the top but you can use that rack to cook vegetables is well. Potatoes cooked on it are utterly delicious. Coat them with lard, wrap them in foil and toss them on the rack and simply yummy.
I've not been able to find a link to it, I've had it for about 7 years and so they may not make it now but I also have a Brinkman upright charcoal smoker.
This I don't have but I stumbled across it while looking for a link to the Brinkman smoker and while I'm happy with the primary BBQ I have, this one looks interesting and pretty low cost as well.

I personally would prefer a bit more shelf space but not a bad looking BBQ for the price.
Here are a couple that I don't have but I've been thinking about.

As I said, I don't have one yet but that looks like a great smoker and also at a low price.
I'm going to buy this one for nights when it's just me and all I want to do is grill a steak or maybe a couple of pork chops.

I don't think it much matters as to who makes it but if your going to BBQ with charcoal a long butane lighter is handy to have.
For the rest of the first I personally use Kingsford charcoal and lighter fluid and various flavors of wood chips if I'm smoking something, usually hickory, sometimes apple or mesquite.
I'm not at all saying that's the only way to do it that's just the way I usually roll.
Wood matches are also great for getting a charcoal fire going.
