So I finally got my smoker after a few false starts in the last while.
Put it together today, it was quite easy and the good folk at Hark made it even easier. The business I bought it from snuck in a couple packet of pellets plus some stubby coolers, not sure what as they weren't labelled.
I decided to season it and it may have gone pear shaped a little.
So it said chuck some pellets in the tray, which I did. It said no water tray, so no tray. It said turn to medium, which I took to be halfway.10 minutes later the pellets in the middle were black and burning and smoke was billowing out the harks orifices. Needless to say, i turned it off.
Its been open for 5 or 6 hours today and still smells like burnt pellet.
Any advice on my next step, and;
What did I do wrong?
Thanks all

I haven't used one but I'd just wash it out with Jiff or gumption and just start using it so the brown coating develops as you smoke stuff. Sounds to me the pellets were getting too much air and flashed. So maybe seal up the unit so the only air it gets is what you give it via the damper below.
