........No, I am not one .....
........I need one
Dose anyone here no of a commercially made item that does this job??
Most suggest, as seen I heaps of recipes, to use a fork but, sometimes if find a fork does a Butchers job (sloppy work)
I am kind of getting sick of making up a home made "Bush Mechanic" style one every time I work a Duck , which, is pretty often
I am all ears ATM, to make this task easier, quicker and more efficient

Don't worry Nath, I wondered the same thing I'm assuming it just pricks the skin? If so then yeah, I used to use a fork but not ideal. I've been using a gadget you can pick up anywhere they sell the little knick-knacks for cooking that is intended to push through a peeled onion and hold it whilst you slice between the points. It's just a plastic handle with a lot of parallel pins. Alternatively for something more like the second one Smokey has linked you could try Spotlight, there's a gadget like that that my mother uses to tease wool. Spotlight is a great place for odd stuff, curved needles for sewing up a bird for example. Cheers

Do you mean something like this? Meat Tenderiser I've got one - I think maybe Victoria's Basement. I can't quite recall where - I know I had trouble finding this style - originally got one that's like a half circle you roll over the skin but it is a bit brutal to the skin - more like slashes than pricks. This one has a spring so the spikes are behind the plastic and you can control the depth by the amount of press you do. Cheers

Hmm, That is neat, going to be a more specialised cooking sort of place I'd guess Shayne, maybe House ? I don't really know Sydney well enough but I think you would have them, pretty common in Perth. Actually Perth is pretty well serviced by shops specialising in kitchen gear these days, quite the choice. You just never know where you are going to find gadgets though, markets can be good, I know Freo is. It's a strange sort of shopping trait I have when overseas, bought some very useful oddities in Singapore, and the States. There's this weird and wonderful place in Burlinghame that if ever I'm in San Francisco I head to, they seem to scour the world looking for kitchen gear. I have a chunk of mushroom shaped polished cherry wood from there that is unreal at peeling garlic and one of the strangest but useful things, a really, really soft dense "nailbrush" that just whisks all the silk off an ear of corn I do have a bit of an aversion to QVB if that is what you are referring to Gatsby, last time I was there my wife managed to clock up a grand's worth of dresses Cheers

Cheers for all the replies fellas
Mick, thanks for the Hyper Links, that's what I needed, and I was almost ready to secure an online purchase,,,, but, aborted to give it some more thought then "BANG" .
Its amazing what the mind does (She's not pickled yet ), when its set to a task....
And its all sorted
For those of you that have young children, I bet you know what this gadget is used for!!!!!
And a bit of a hone on ether side using an oil stone brought up a bit of a point, on each needle.
A bit of push and shove and man, this thing is gunna work a treat....
This will work great guns......... I just cant believe I didn't think of this previously

Great idea. Can always jam something between the rows to open them up to different widths.
If you drill holes in it you could fashion it up like a reverse set of brass knuckles and really go to town on a bird.
