I am starting to get pretty tired of being pushed and shoved by trigger happy mods (one in particular no doubt) over at the other so......
..... moving forward from here, no further posting there will be seen from shayneh2006.
Over it, big time
Rant over, so, happy times here moving forward

I'm hearing you. Been there less and less myself lately and seen a big shift from what it was when I joined less than two years ago. Seems to be all about gear now not food. I Don't do comps. I Don't argue brands and I don't take sides but I do like the atmosphere here. Let's keep it this way. People helping people get better at what they enjoy. We've all just been doing the food thing and having fun with none of the ugly I've seen more than once in my short time in BBQ. We seem to be all mates here Shayne and hopefully it'll stay that way.

While I'm Switzerland, and so is this forum, I too feel your despair. It does seem that forum has been taken over by a group that will stop at nothing and gleefully put down another mans product. Then change history and claim that they introduced Real BBQ ,,,,, after being taught by existing helping members. Guess I've only been making mud pies all these years But never say never boys, Things do and will change. I still see it as a place to teach newbies about the basics of BBQ. As for this place? The only thing you can argue about is how to cook! And that is a recipe for success.

Heh, It's like most any forum on most any subject, they wax and wane and some dominate - for a while. I thinks it's simpler here, not locked in to BBQ, I love BBQ as much as any of us but I do love cooking in all its guises. Let's just keep it as friendly as it is, simple recipe Cheers

Spot on
+ me
Anyone that starts crap here will have to answer to Mick and I and we don't take prisoners.
This is a place were members can meet and discuss cooking ideas and methods, swap recipes and offer advice to others without any crap or ulterior motives. (Apart from me trying to generate donations to the MAWF, the forums preferred charity) This is not about comps and catering for a few participants nor is it about advertising or direct marketing to a captive audience.
This is about the members and what they want out of the forum.

For whatever reason it says admin under my name but I do defer to the Captain and Smokey on dealing with any crap but they only have to ask I think one of the things, mentioned by two in this thread that is very germane is what AM65 had to say about being more about gear and what Shayne does that I so heartily approve of, keeping the tools simple. It tends to happen with most any hobby, and cooking is a more useful hobby than most, you can eat (usually) the results. Guys in particular have this thing of getting all wrapped up in the tech, he with the most toys wins etc. My hobbies after cooking are apart from reading pretty centered around technology, Aviation, IT (which actually makes my income) and entertainment systems (used to be just audio.) All three of those on forums that I am involved with can become tech-oriented. Flyboys forget that it is the joy of flying, not the means, geeks forget that it is a multi-purpose tool, not a hot-rod (car nuts are the same) audio freaks forget that it is the music or the performance not the reproduction equipment. Shayne makes magic with a kettle, a "ghetto smoker" that evolved, he recycles old fridges and things outside the box to get fabulous results. He uses tech, very accurate scales and obviously a great camera as a means to an end. (A rumour suggests he also uses a calculator a lot He also cooks on what best suits but is enthused about the food, not the tools so much. That's the way I prefer to play, and so I think does most everyone here, some might have more toys but they are not the point. A muse, hope I captured something, also too serious, normal service now resumed Rock on Shayne !!! Cheers

But never say never boys, Things do and will change. I still see it as a place to teach newbies about the basics of BBQ. Agree with all the posts so far..... As the forums name entails, its "all about the food" Mick, one thing that concerns me about this forum is the lack of exposure, for newbies Like, if a Google search of say, "Australian BBQ", the others are handed to you, but this forum is at best, seen pages behind It might be something the admin side can look into to get some more traffic through here, resulting in extra members, and more action Finally, yes its all about the food, not what you cook on. As Chris said, yes, i do 99% of my BBQ on a simple Weber Kettle and that proves that its not all about the machine, but rather who drives it..... Sharing recipes... and how to's is what its about. Oh, the recipes.............. I have ATM a Honey Oranged Brined Duckling that i am experimenting with, that should be ready by the weekend, to be mildly smoked with a fruit wood of some kind. Brace yourselves with full pics and recipe coming up.........................................................................if it works Shayne

Point taken, We need IT.. there was a possible but seems life got in the way of that helper and I hope he is well. I will look at what I can do and consult as a matter of priority. I own the domain Aussiecue.com.au so it's a matter stitching it up , Maybe a new forum all together.

Phil,
good to read you again, i feared you threw your hands in the air and road orf into the sunset.
and kettle boy, mate you leave me gobsmaked with your adventures with the mighty kettle. i am pleased that you have taken the snake places i never dreamed of when i laid it down for the other forum. for that i thank-you soooo much.
Mick............well whoodathunkit 'ey..??.. good bloke, great mate..........and fantastic warrior for the wronged.
A65..............mate you should have lived the early days of the aussiebbq forum, it was mates helping each other, and one bloke getting his butt kicked quite often. still but, i was taught forum manners and had fun learning and teaching Q.
damn.....it was a good place to come to.
before Phil suggested i come over to aussie. i was on the TVWBB site, and it was a good trip on aussie for a while.
Chris........mate i am with you.......the e-bay thing on sunday......i really wanted to get a 50% discount, but with all my toys, the only things that somewhat interested me were the tekky things, and i have learned that experience and knowledge of your equipment will do you better, (or as good as) than all the you beaut teckky stuff. it is getting that way that the cave man experience of BBQ is disapearing into computer controlled ovens.
that is one reason why i have not replaced my hot rod in the mighty T machine......so i can spark it up like i do with all my other BBQs, it tricks my tiny little brain into thinking that i am doing real Q, which i am...
any-how...........sorry about the love in which i just hit yas with, but..........well i am lost in the ozone......
i think if the site got more hits........it might just climb up the google search page quicker. so i think we should all log in more, maybe.
looking forward to Shayne's next trip into duckdom on the weekend.......go you good thing.

After a sojourn in hospital the guy I spoke to you about is on the mend Mick, will remind him this week. Getting higher up the search engines is a bit of an art, I had not done anything about it because you were operating primarily on invitation membership but can look into it if you like. Be aware though, being high on the engines can be a two-edged sword, depends on why, who and what chooses to open a page. Cheers

That will do a those crazy Russians. The wheels are in motion gents. Chris is better to make any announcement lest I waffle on about stuff I only half know. Stay cool, still early days but our little free forum may just become something great.
