Yep, you guessed it....... Pizza tonite
But for the sauce, I always make my own using a can of good quality diced Tomatoes, 1/2 dozen fresh Basil leaves, 1 Garlic clove, pinch of salt and some EVOO.
All thrown in a mini blender, and pulsed to combine....... then simmered on the stove top, reduced down until thick......and turns out great.
Then,,,,, I will say it again, "geez I love Aldi"
They sell tins of Tomatoes (gourmet type with extras) for like... 79 cents, so I grabbed a few recently to try, intending to be used for Spag Bog.
Well, I opened one today (herb and Garlic) to try with tonites Pizza, expecting to add to it my Pizza sauce ingredients as usual..
Cracked the tin and taste tested, and this stuff was at full surprise.... Its the complete deal. Great flavor and is almost ready to go.
I simply added a bit of EVOO, pinch of salt and tipped it straight into a pot.
A quick mash with a Potatoe masher and it was business as usual.
Money, time and the hassle of washing up my blender will now be a thing of the past.
I was pretty happy with my find, I can tell ya

Great minds think alike I used to make it the hard way, only justified by buying a box of tomatoes at the market and making a HUGE batch and freezing most of it, which is really not ideal but I don't have the gear to can my own and had mixed success with preserving tomatoes in jars. It didn't really matter, all used up in a few weeks but really it is a lot of work. Now canned tomatoes are just a staple in my cupboard, half a dozen cans at any time and used for all sorts but including pizza. Just for once don't have to wince about Aldi prices, exactly the same price here with a bit of hunting around Oh, yes, whole, chopped, with garlic, herbs, quite a variety of choice, all same price Cheers

I use their Pasata instead of tomato's in most recipes now. A lot of the cook books were originally written when Pasata was not commercially available in Aus. Give it a try in recipes that really don't need chunks of tomato in them, the taste is great.

I love to scour the fruit shops that have canned and bottled stock set out all around the shop. Always something interesting to find. Agree with you Bill about the passata. Years ago I used to make it in beer bottles when I lived in Sydney. There was a farm gate out on Elizabeth Drive that simply sold the best tomatoes I've ever had. Could be wallgrove road,,,or horsley park drive,,, I can't remember Sydney streets anymore You might know it Shayne? It's one that takes you out to the gun shop. Big Italian house on the left hand side. Incredible sweet toms
