I of all people should know: no photos, it didn't happen. However, i thought that I should share my experience with you. I purchased a hibachi a few months ago for the express purpose of doing a casual lunch on Christmas Day. I gave it a trial run soon after purchasing it and grilled some cubes of scotch fillet and some cubes of a chicken breast, the rusults were OK but not as good as I expected so it stayed in out of sight until Christmas Day. I thought that I could do just as well on a small charcoal grill or kettle. The only difference was the overall height of the hibachi was lower.
I purchased some Cooked Prawns, Green Prawns, Salmon, Calamari and Mussels. about 1 - 1 1/2 Kg of each and using one of those multi segmented dip plate put in 7 different sauces, (Fish Sauce, Sweet Chilli, Lemon and Honey Mayo, Mayo with Hot Date and Tamarind Chutney, Tomato Sauce & Horseradish Sauce, BBBQ Sauce with Tobasco, plus a plate of lemon wedges. We had 6 people all told at the table and after a cpuple of simple instructions on where the esky was and what the sauces were, we let them loose. The comments that I received were nothing short of spectacular everyone enjoyed the food so much. the mussels turned out to be the favorite followed by the cubes of salmon. It took about 3 hours but everything was demolished. It turned out to be a great meal with everybody being totally satisfied and wanting to do it again.
The hibachi I bought sat in a wire rack above the table and was not supposed to get hot underneath, I never trust those type of sales pitches so I cut a piece of chipboard larger than the habachi to place it on to feel safer. I could have done without it, as there was very little heat on the chipboard.
I would definately do this again using a hibachi, and have twice as many of the mussel, I would also do whole halves of garlic as well
