I've bounced this idea around before and posted it on ABBQF. The results of the March comp over there have only strengthened my resolve to fly this idea up the flag pole again and see if it has any merit.
Considering the multicultural approach to food both on this forum, other forums and in Australia in general is there any merit in trying out a themed thread for different recipes from different nationalities or a list of countries / regions people can post ideas, recipes and requests in.
One per month or quarter maybe like a "What did you Que?", or a competition page with a nominated culinary destination, but not necessarily limited only to showing what we did but also an option for requesting recipes along that countries theme.
I personally have had Thai, Greek, American, North African, Jamaican and middle eastern style meals since getting involved in BBQ about this time last year and have used it as a referrence when planning family meals or parties.
Might be a change from picking a type of protein and researching how to cook that.
Planning a whole feed from starters through to mains and desserts, drinks and anything else unique to that nation or region leads to a fun night usually. Had a Spanish night once with heaps of Tapas dishes and Sangria also recently did an asian seafood themed dinner.
Think about it and let's all have a discussion about the possibilities and potential.

Sounds like you are onto something here.
I love searching the net for bbq ideas taken from different cultures from around the world, then seeing if I can cook it,
As far as competition is concerned, I have mixed thoughts on this, both with your idea and the one that was proposed in "What did you cue".
I am thinking this forum isn't big enough at this early stage, as given the low amount of members, it probably will struggle.
over at ABBQF, there was only 17 that voted and that includes self voting by entrants.
Pretty weak really given the amount of active members............

You're right about the competition Shayne, maybe in this forum we just call it a showcase and share what we did and how we did it for the benefit of all who loiter here and those who visit. I didn't vote for myself, I cast a vote on behalf of my son who loved the dish, otherwise I wouldn't have got past one. But you're right there also, heaps of members and no votes. So either they were all competitioned out by the Blues and BBQ festival or too busy squablling about something involving pellets or rules or vendor alliances or something. Let's not let that happen here. Beer and BBQs and a catch up for a bit of a yarn maybe.

All I said was,,,,,,, Given that this is a recipe forum for outdoor cooking your suggestion is a good one and valid. I would have to create an "International" main thread with sub topics (Indian, Korean ect) that are not vissible on the home page other wise the home page would be too long. My only problem is that there would be two places to put "Korean grilled beef recipe". However you could post them in both I supose but that would be up to yourselves to log them into there apropriate sections. I dont really want to follow ABBQF comps for the reasons above. Id rather have a rule less vote for best of the month.

It only takes one goat. Just had an idea, why not create one new topic named whatever is decided and allocate a nationality/ region to each month of the year. If meals are impressive and someone wants the recipe they just have to comment and the poster can put it in the protein thread that suits. A bit like an index of what is available and where to go to look for it. Make for some interesting nights at my place. No two meals ever the same, tribe can also choose what they would like. bit like an internet food court. Need more ideas and opinions from the other members here, don't want to see the forum clunky and unusable just like to save time.

AM65, Ideally all full recipes should be in the protein sections. Then there is what did you cue generally with just a scant description. I can't see this happening without doubling up? If there is an international section it would have to stick rather than rolling a monthly theme. But again, it makes for three places to stick a thread depending on wether it has a recipe with it or not.
I could add sub topics to say beef that you don't see until you click on beef and there you would see all the countries, all several hundred of them. However that would be a PITA for a poor moderator to have to sift through checking every room is clean and happy. In the future anyway. I like the idea but the amount of shuffling is excessive. When you look at it just about everything in Aussie Cue is international but made Australian with our own querks. The idea for this forum came from the British Pitt Cue book, setting out the format similar to its chapters(loosely)
Its a brilliant book that showcases British and US fusion and is much closer to what we do in the real world.
Im not saying no, It's just gotta work for admin and mods and also the forum culture being top class Aussie Cue.

Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want to do is make more work for the moderators/ Admin or make the forum too complicated.
Just an idea for consideration as the forum evolves over time. My boss regularly tells me I'm an ideas man, then reminds me that they all sound like a good idea at the pub when we're solving the problems of the world.
It isn't broken and doesn't need fixing or fiddling with.

I have an idea, I have a domain aussiecue.com.au sitting dormant waiting for me to find a techy or pay one to tie it to the forum. That domain could list the best recipes set out in their country of origin ? Or at least links back to the OP;s original place of posting (Cue logging) Hows that grab ya? Ill look into it

Guys, online comps don't work very well, I have run them for the ABBQF and tried all sorts of comps from structured to open and the results are the same. They get a lot better response from the WDYC topic.
How about for the time being we just create a topic in What Did you Cue for international cooks and Post the recipes in the appropriate recipe sections.
We can vote for the most inspiring cook on a quarterly basis - no prizes just the Kudos.
We can always upgrade later.
