We did the weekly shop this morning and SWMBO was about to buy 4 Chicken Thigh Cutlets (about 1Kg) the ones with the skin on and the bone in, at $8.00/Kg. Right beside them were Marylands at $4.00/Kg, I told her to get the Marylands which weighed out at 2Kg = $8.00. I hacked them apart when we got home. So for the same price as we would have paid for the Cutlets we got a bonus of 4 legs. SWMBO claimed she never thought of doing it that way.

I'm hearing you bill44,
Looked at the prepacked thighs on special the other day and they were 2 bucks a kilo dearer than the deli ones. Runny and pale looking blood everywhere in the packs. Yuck
Experience has also showed me not to go shopping when I'm hungry and buy only whats on the list unless it BBQ stuff.

I'm a sucker for getting an idea then going out and buying all the ingredients for it. The excess can turn what should be a $20 meal into an $80 meal,, Sure there is left over ingredients for other times but every week I still seem to do the same over the top spend

That's why I always try to avoid taking the wife shopping. She did come this week, now I have to re jig the entire fortnight's budget and figure out how to use her impulse buys Cheers

I'm guilty of that also Mick, or not looking properly in the pantry and getting more of something we've already got.
Been told quite clearly, that in future I see what is on special and cook something from it rather than bring the supermarket home because I want to try something new.
