I am on the Overlander from Adelaide to Melbourne and will be home tonight. A great journey, I flew to Darwin, had a few days in Darwin then caught the Gahn to Adelaide, are ways in Adelaide and then the Overlander to Melbourne. A relaxing journey with a captive audience. One problem - no BBQ. Now on my way home two problems - what ba to cook on first and what to cook. I need a veggie hit so I might do the old standby - roast pork and roast veggies.
i recommend the train trips, great way to travel and see the country. The Gahn is a bit expensive but worth it. Go platinum class for the best experience and best comfort of a night.
Cheers

Happy trails Never really been attracted to a Ghan run but it may be a result of living in both Port Augusta and Darwin, everyone I know who has taken the trip loved it. Cheers

Sound like a great trip Captain, I've only herd good things from those who have made the trip on the Gahn. Im feeling like I need a vegie feed sooner than later as well.

I ended up doing the Woolies Classic Marinated roast beef the first night on the genesis, Brined Chicken the second night on the performer and roast Pork the third night on the Davey Crocket with all the usual veggies each night. Great to be home again.

Just looking at the GSR web site...a guy can dream I guess...Wow, would those be some trips I would enjoy! Bentley, Hi Mate. I have done the Amtrack from New Orleans to LA back in '96. The Ghan was similar. On the Amtrack, in a sleeper compartment I had to go outside to change my mind. The Ghan gold compartments were just a little bigger. We booked the gold premium compartment which was much bigger. cheers phil.

Would have been pretty scenic till you hit about Central Texas...then it was sagebrush and mesquite and sand for 800 miles till you got to San Diego and then nice gain...you would have felt like you were in the back a beyond...

I missed that - yeah they are Bent, left to right, same thing, US on the left, the poles are a giveaway I think. The Oz one is sort of could be anywhere, the mountains look like the Flinders but could as easily be the McDonnells. Cheers

The Goggle shot. on Left is just outside Alice Springs...the one on right is West Central Nevada, about halfway between Las Vegas and Reno! I figured the Google Maps would give it away...I would venture to guess anyone who live in Alice Springs would have no issue living in most of Nevada!
