Not yet, Circumstance hasn't put me near that side of town yet. Also a lot of left overs in the fridge doing lunch duties.

Bizzar, In 2008-9 we were trying to get the pulled meat idea out there, Wow has it swept through. Anyone seen the TV ad for the HJ pulled beef burger? It's not endearing me to want one Sounds like it's going to be hard work chewing one down.

TV is seemingly out of synch with reality, we have the ad, the stores do not have the product, but yeah, doesn't exactly have me excited. I ran into yet another variation last week, some local Vietnamese operation supplies grab and go rolls to a supermarket nearby, the default is a Vietnamese pulled pork. Tried one - have to tell you, it was pretty damned good Cheers

G'day I tried a pulled pork roll at the coffee club. It was a muck, the sauce was awful and flavour less . The meat was "grainy and dry" I felt like a kid again... You know the feeling, you chewed the meat so long you coundnt get it to go down the the throat kinda dry. I didn't finish the first mouthful ... Couldn't eat it In there defense, they didn't charge my meal and the cook came out and apologized. I've always liked there food. It's always been tastier and quick and everything on the menu is good Makes me a bit "gun shy" of any thing claiming to be "pulled" I do low and slow and its moist and the connective tissue turns to gelatin. Unless it's a place that specializes in this style of cooking I'm not going to bother. As for coffee club. .. They do a great steak Sanger and chips and the coffees not 1/2 bad Regards dave

G'day Vietnamese pork rolls. Used to go down to Eastwood in Sydney. The Best! Now in Brisbane there's a Vietnamese baker next to the entrance to the railway station in Brunswick st. Pretty Bloody good. There's also one in Bowen Hills in the industrial estate. Open for lunch times. But a bit more than just bloody good, one of the best I've tasted. Regards dave

That's because they know what they are doing with pork. Between 1984 to 88 I worked a factory floor doing a trade and the Vietmanese work buddy's would stuff me full of pulled pork and boiled eggs most lunch times. They got me onto these little tins with a snap lid that you put in your food, Take it to work at 7AM and chuck it in an oven we had there. Five and a half hours later we had pulled meat, I remember that smell so vividly, Back in those days there were complaints about the beautiful Vietnamese food smells wofting around the factory and the union said we should only cook traditional Irish stew,,, Even though the majority of workers there were from all over the world and could not have cared less. But I loved it. Was my first real experiance of true spiced meat and pork neck. They were heady days

Well guys, I decided that it was up to me to take one for the team and give the pulled beef burgers a try.
In short it was a bit of underwhelming experience but not really bad. If anything the whole affair was a bit bland and the BBQ sauce they used did little to salvage the situation. The beef itself was quite succulent but bland...definitely not smoked, but rather low and slowed in a slow cooker perhaps. BBQ sauce was the usual fast food crap, not worth mentioning. The coleslaw was ok but again lacked any sort of zing
Can't say it was bad, but I found nothing about it that will make me try it again.
PS.... Regarding low and slow in fast foods, I remember a Tex Mex place downtown Cairns that served a rather good pulled pork. They used it in Buritos, Tacos, etc. I asked the owner about it and while he was understandably reluctant to give me the recipe, he said that he did it in a pot, low and slow on the stove, low heat, so there are ways to do it.
PPS.... Domino's pulled pork/beef are really disgusting. Tried them the other night in a pizza a friend brought and it was awful. Total waste of good pork and and affront to all good Pizza

Total waste of good pork and and affront to all good Pizza Domino"s is disgusting full stop. We have a couple of local pizza joints that are reasonably good, including one that showed me how to prick the base to ensure thin and crispy. The crappyiest pizza from them is five times better than the big chain stores. One of the independents in Sutherland did a smokey beef pizza last year that was great but was only on the menu for six months. They haven't put it back despite much urging. dave

Delivering any form of consistently "ok" fast food is never going to equate to what we regard as good food - trick is making the kids understand that Cheers
