Ive been looking at getting into sous vide for a while now, but couldn't justify the outlay, for something that would certainly be used, but not all the time if you know what I mean.
I have had my eye on the Breville as seen below www.breville.com.au/sous-vide-bsv600.html
Then, found this unbelievable deal that Myer have on at the moment during there stock take. www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/sous-vide-supreme-bsv600-137753290#header
I was going to ask you blokes first what you thought of the brand/model but at this price ($200 + free delivery), I didn't want to stuff around before they sold available stock

It works Shayne but it's also work in itself. You basicly cook the meat to you liking then flash sear for all of a few seconds a side. So there is waste regarding the searing. The outcome is fantastic however the means needs to be understood. Someone like yourself I think would get the best out of sous vide so I would say go for it. Think of this, perfect rare right through and just the very surface seared hell hot so no gray section. Ive seen you do that with rump already. The difference is the way the slow soak makes the meat so damed tender. Id Go so far as to not bother with cranking up a BBQ and griddle it on the stove, It still comes out eyeball wow. Its not BBQ , but rather chefs trickery

Cheers for the reply Mick....
Pissed off though, and its about consumer misconception and Misleading conduct as to the nature of goods
Just found out it don't come with a vacuum sealer and pouches as promised, when I read the product information page on the Breville website last night.
Just got off the phone to their customer support, and the reply,,,,,,
I sent them an email last night, about the page on their website, with a link (that has since vanished on the page) to the product info.
The consultant said to me,,,, "oh, we hadn't had a chance to update our website", but thanks for flagging it...............
Ummm, mate, I purchased this product based on what I read last night....
It aint my problem that your website hasn't been updated for god knows how long.......................
....................then, he hung up on me
Grrrrrrrr

Check on the Fair Trading website or give them a ring about false advertising. There will be rules about web based advertising and bad service deserves to be repaid by a little tune up.
Retail law was quite clear when I did it for a living. Price on the shelf or catalogue was the price it had to be sold for.
Otherwise do a Google search on the company and email the boss direct telling him how disgruntled you are and the action you are planning, mention blogs, forums and social media as a form of promoting your disgust. You'll get a result.
Happy to help if I can, been ripped off before and worked hard to get my money back. Sometimes it's just a matter of principle.

I would not let that one go Shayne, websites are a valid advertising media and records are kept as in date-stamped updates, content can be non-trivial. But if reasonable doubt exists then ACCC get rather hostile. Breville have a very long term good name in the Oz market, I think they will very likely just back down, their offer was obviously a counter to Sunbeams. I was not in the market, busy setting up a new biz, (funnily enough the acronym is ACCC, and how ASIC accepted it still bemuses me but it is utterly different ) However it was a typical promotion from these giants and should be honoured against purchase. Up to you, but keeping the bastards honest is an obligation I'm still sitting on the fence with SV, so the anti of the getting back to basics of BBQ really, as Mick says, bit of a trick, I really must look at the origins Cheers

Did you get a snap shot? If not don't worry, and put it down to yin yang . two hundred is a good price for that gear. Ive dusted off my PID and am planing a sous Vide steak done cave man style over Gidgee char. Dr Sweatsmoke style with a big,, maybe skirt steak or hanger. And I think the go anywhere will be the perfect receptacle for a good size strip directly on a layer of searing lump

Weeel.. Depends.. did you order online? If so the confirmation will say what you ordered including all "free" inclusions. I seem to spend a lot of time these days dealing with web purchasing disputes, evolving industry, we win most all of them. If I had a law degree I'd hang out a shingle, but I don't feel inclined to swim through the septic tank of law after the purity of physics Leave that to lawyers and their pact with Faust The real trick is to keep any such things away from the legal sharks, when that happens walk away, only they will profit Cheers

Sometimes it's just a matter of principle. Right on Angryman
And yes Chris , keeping the bastards honest is an obligation that I intend to carry out.
Mick, I didn't get a snap shot of the actual screen on their site. I didn't think of it at the time.
The link below is the screen I went to, minus now the click tab to the FAQ's of the product www.breville.com.au/sous-vide-bsv600.html
How last night unfolded.....
1. Product was seen on Myer website on clearance 2. Bugger all product info on Myer website, so researched the product directly at Breville Australia website 3. More info found there, looked at the operating manual PDF as well as the FAQ PDF 4. FAQ PDF clearly shows that the unit comes with a sealer and start up bags. I did get screen shots of parts (saved the file too) 5. Went back to the Myer site, product info says bags are not included, (no mention of sealer) 6. Email sent to Breville asking whats going on, with a link provided to where it clearly shows in FAQ' that the appliance comes with a sealer and bags. 7. Today (afternoon), I go into my browsing history, click the Breville page I viewed last night and the click tab is gone 8. No email or call from their customer support, so I rig them directly, and speak to a call person. 9. The call person says he will need to speak to the supervisor. I quizzed him about the link to FAQ's gone, and it seems that conveiniently, they so happen to be upgrading there website now, and that page must have just been done. He got my details to call me back. 10. He rang back and said, the appliance no longer comes with the lot. Sorry, but that page shouldn't have been there, un updated like that. This is no longer available. Me- "did I know that???". "Your a big company, why was that information still left viable???"
Anyway......
Below is text from an email sent to them, giving them one last chance to sort it out, before I proceed further.....
I recently finished a conversation with one of your consultants, about this product purchased online from one of your retailers, I which, my concerns were not resolved, and when it all got to hard, I was hung up on . Research of the product was carried out on your website, and once I understood what was included, the purchase was made. I am now realizing that what Breville have promised as included will in fact, not be. Links to the pages I viewed were provided to the consultant, and yet, i looks like Breville are not going to honour what was promised to be included. Misleading conduct as to the nature of goods is forbidden by law as stated by the department of fair trading. If Breville does not want to accept liability for this error, the matter will be handed over to the NSW Department of Fair trading. Copies of the emails sent to your consultant, with product links (that PDF has been saved to my hard drive, just incase it gets quickly deleted like the link to it vanished from your website, as soon as I flagged the error), as well as the saved PDF. I will let them decide if this practice is indeed consumer misconception (as I believe it is).
Thankyou
At the end of the day, this young bloke (call center dude) I think was just strutting his stuff, trying to be a bully and not looking at the big picture.
Any logical person would have sent me the sealer, just to put a close to the issue, while its in its infancy......
C what happens next

Good record Shayne, don't go fighting it yourself any further, raise a complaint with consumer protection and give them what you just posted. Cheers

Cheers Chris.
Those dot points are a basic summary of what happened (I was rushing typing that, as the NRL was getting close to starting).
I will tidy up the document, adding more info that will support my case
I will give Breville till the weekend to make contact (I wont be holding my breath) then, prepare and send my complaint to Fair traiding.
Look, at the end of the day, the unit itself was really cheap and going for the sealer as well, some might call it greed, but no, I am acting on fair principal.
That said, I have thought about this further........
Marketing the item by itself (not including a sealer) is a scam by both the supplier (Breville) and the retailer, knowing damn right that when the customer buys the item and gets it home, its useless to them......
It cant be used without the sealer and bags... so the customer rushes back to the store and "BANG", the retailer has made another sale
Just look at the link to the Myer page I posted in the OP.
I cant see anywhere where it says that a Vacuum sealer is needed to be paired to the Suos Vide in order to make it operational.

I don't know enough about SV but your point is a good one Shayne. It's been many years since I worked in electrical retail and even then I did audio video not appliances although where I worked had a section that did. The reps from both Breville and Sunbeam have a lot of local authority in my experience but just how that extends to the online world I'm not so sure. One year Breville had a coffee maker that included a milk frother, looked good so I bought us one for Christmas, it really wasn't that good, not enough steam. Post Christmas Breville took back any that were returned, no questions asked, dropped the model and replaced them with a more expensive one or cash back. Appliances are a very competitive market especially these days with all the unheard of Chinese brands, I think you'll find once you get past the telephone support drongo, a very high turnover job, you'll get a good outcome. Nonetheless best to go via Fair Trading, we're lucky in Australia, very well protected in that regard. Cheers

Just a little tip with SV, don't over spice the steak and then vac, It really takes it up. Just go light or nothing at all and salt and pepper just prior to grilling. Vac seal speed marinating is a well known technique and can work against you when combined with SV
